ADVENTURE
TIME After-School Sessions
Adventure
Time is an after-school program for latchkey children in low-income families. The kids are
drawn from grades K-3 at six local elementary schools
in the Richardson Independent School District: Carolyn
Bukhair, Dobie Primary, Dover, RISD Academy, Spring Valley
and Northwood Hills. NSC's goal is to help students succeed
by giving them a head start on education, by developing
appropriate social skills, and by keeping them safe and
engaged.
Adventure
Time meets at the NSC Center Monday-Friday from 3:00 PM to
6:00 PM on days consistent with the RISD calendar.
NSC staff and volunteers direct diversified
activities, including outdoor recreation, arts and crafts, sports and games,
music and drama.
-
Each student is expected to do his or her homework, and NSC
provides trained counselors and tutors who help and
encourage the children.
-
Each student is asked to read English aloud to a tutor
for at least ten minutes each day.
Activities are designed to meet the needs and abilities of
different age groups and individuals. NSC staff and volunteers work together to provide as much
individualized attention as possible.

MY
TIME Teen Camp Sessions
My
Time is a day-long
summer camp for latchkey children in low-income
families. The kids are drawn from grades 6-11 in the
local schools of the Richardson Independent School District.
NSC's goal is to address the special problems of older
children during the summer vacation period, when they are
subject to gang activity, victimization and juvenile
delinquency.
My
Time meets at the NSC Center Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM to
6:00 PM. It is divided into two 4-week sessions, consistent
with the RISD calendar for school closing and reopening.
The camp offers a sense of belonging and support, with age
appropriate and appealing programs that utilize area
resources and organizations to expand and enrich program
options. My Time affords the kids who participate an opportunity to
take part in activities they would never otherwise
enjoy.
Activities
coordinated by NSC include swimming, arts and crafts, team
and individual sports, drama and plays, fun classes, career
information, special guests, high tech and science, cooking,
and field trips. Campers and parents are required to sign NSCI’s Behavior Contract.

Time application.
